Partners in Design

CORE Tanzania is pleased to announce a new partnership with NAC Architecture. NAC team members are working with us on a pro bono basis to design the school buildings and staff housing for Twegashe Primary School in Bushasha village.

Founded in 1960, NAC Architecture is an award-winning design firm with 180 talented team members working out of offices in Seattle, Spokane, and Los Angeles. Their areas of expertise include education (pre-K through university), healthcare, senior living, and community recreation. The firm is passionate about creating places and spaces that advance learning, enhance healing, and enrich communities. Over the years NAC has been involved in a number of mission-driven projects around the world, most recently for a school and a clinic in Kenya. You can find more information about the firm and their work on the NAC Architecture website.

The partnership with NAC had its beginnings with a CORE Tanzania board member simply reaching out to a friend who she knew was married to an architect, “just in case” he might be interested in helping out with a project like ours. It turned out he was interested, and thought other architects and designers at his workplace (NAC Architecture) might be interested as well. We were invited to present our project to a group of NAC members at a Friday afternoon happy hour, and the next thing we knew, the company had offered to take on the design of Twegashe Primary School as a pro bono project.

Also partnering with us on the design and construction team are two architect/builders based in Seattle who have volunteered their personal time and professional expertise to support our effort to provide quality education to kids in rural Tanzania. The entire team is motivated by the conviction that a well-designed learning environment can play a powerful role in increasing children’s success at school.
